Mehr erfahrenSusanne Husemann knows that these questions are immaterial. An explanation would wipe away the magic, and it would never be sufficient or satisfactory. Vermeer's crime scenes remain untouched, the possible acts of violence remaining unpunished. It is this disquiet in the quiet that one must endure. The face without eyes, the incomprehensibility of the time that passes. And it reveals that no destructive power is sufficient to affect the indestructible. Images of a nameless obsession. These women, this female gesticulation, calm the viewer in a shocking fashion and manner. Rüdiger Schaper
